“RAW” Talent

This past Thursday, RAW: Natural Born Artists had the 2013 Philadelphia RAWards: Semifinals at LiT UltraBar. Three artists from each category, ranging from visual art to fashion design, competed to be named the artist of the year for the Philadelphia region. I was fortunate enough to make it in the final three for the ‘Visual Artists’ category.

Art comes in many forms. Each piece unique to the artist who created it. Musical performances happened throughout the evening. I’m so proud to be a part of the Philadelphia art culture. There is some amazing talent here.

During the show, winners were announced in each category. The winner moves onto the 5th Annual RAW National Showcase. I am so honored to announce that I won the 2013 Philly RAWard for the Best Visual Artist of the Year! Thank you so much to all who have helped me get here and thanks to the judges for recognizing my work.

From here, I believe that another judging period is next. All of the winners from each city will be reviewed by the National judges and then the winners will move onto the formal National competition in LA. For more information on how it works (and to make sure I’m getting it right!), please visit http://www.rawartists.org/ or watch the “How it Works” YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItGvfnj-BZE.

While all of this has been going on, I had a good break period to work on my art. Here is my most recent piece:

Owl (2013) - Graphite

I have also been working on the drawing pictured below. I’m excited to see how it turns out! It might turn into a new series. Who knows? A matryoshka doll kind of series perhaps.

Unifinished piece (Charcoal) - Anastasia Alexandrin

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see! Make sure to follow me on Instagram to see my new artwork as soon as it’s finished! @aalexandrin And to get instant updates, make sure to ‘Like’ my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AnastasiaAlexandrinArtist.
