Ohitika
Ohitika
“Have you ever faced a moment so heavy that it felt like the end of the road? That’s where I was when I created Ohitika. I thought I might have to give up making art, to leave behind the thing I love most. It was a dark day, filled with doubt and uncertainty.
But since I didn’t have another job yet, I sat down to draw. And this image poured out of me—a reminder that I am a woman, and I feel everything. And that’s how we fight: by feeling it all and moving through it.
By the time I finished this piece, something had shifted. My finances sorted themselves out, and I persisted. To this day, I’m still an artist, still creating, because I didn’t give up.
Ohitika—a Native American word for courage—embodies that moment of transformation, when strength is found in vulnerability and persistence. It’s a deeply personal piece, and it reminds me every day to keep moving forward, no matter what.”
