“Isn’t he incredible? This owl doesn’t even seem real, does he? He was inspired by the stunning Philippine eagle owls, but his feathers took on a life of their own as I drew him—going every which way, full of texture and personality.

Feather by feather, this quirky little guy completely won my heart. And that expression! It’s so sleepy and endearingly dopey, like he’s halfway between a daydream and a nap.

What makes him so special is how he’s inspired so many other owls I’ve created. He feels like the starting point for all kinds of whimsy and fun. Drawing him was pure joy
